About

The Dr. Mable V. Jones. Scholarship is a need-based OR merit-based scholarship for incoming freshmen who are enrolling at any accredited UNCF Member Institution or other accredited four-year HBCU. To apply you must reside or be a permanent resident in the following geographic of Metropolitan Detroit: Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, or Wayne. Applicants must possess a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

 

Eligibility

All majors are eligible with a preference given to students who are interested in majoring in the following areas of study:

  • Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Computer, Industrial, Robotics, Systems, Software, Battery, Environmental, Materials, process, quality, Safety Automation Controls, or Manufacturing Engineering.

  • Data and Information Technology

  • Cyber-Security

  • Certification Pathways in Data/Information Technology including specific software expertise relevant to Automotive Industry.

  • Math and Science-related to Information technology, Data Sustainability, Chemistry, or Materials Science.

Selected students will receive a need-based OR merit-based award of $4,250 for the 2025-2026 academic year.

Application requirements:

  1. Possess a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

  2. Submit an online application.

  3. A one-page essay (a statement of career interests)

  4. 1 letter of recommendation

  5. A current academic transcript;
